Jamaica Restaurant quote: “ Bringing you the sunshine goodness of the Caribbean ”

Xaymaca restaurant was established in 1998. It is operated by a limited company Xaymaca Ltd. The Managing Director is Orlando McDonald and the Co- Director is Beverley McMahon. Orlando, originally from Kingston , Jamaica has over 20 years experience in the Catering & Hospitality Industry, operating units in Birmingham and London, essentially food court operations. Beverley, has over 10 years experience in the hospitality industry and currently lectures at Birmingham College of Food and Tourism.

Xaymaca won two prestigious awards in 2001 , Best Restaurant Winner in the under £20 category in Birmingham, sponsored by Birmingham Nightlife Awards , and Best Food & Catering Award sponsored by 3B ( Black Business in Birmingham ). These awards have assisted greatly in putting Xaymaca and Caribbean food on the map.

The head chef is Mrs Gloria Hay and she is originally from Jamaica. Whilst we have an extensive menu, the two most popular food items are Curried Goat and Jerk Chicken. Our home made Guinness Punch and cocktail Lanny’s Lickshot prove to be our best sellers from the drinks menu.

A unique feature of Xaymaca is the limbo appetiser. Guests are actively encouraged to limbo dance into the restaurant , demonstrated by our staff. How high or low can you go ???

We have entertained a few celebrities since we opened including Lenny Henry , Reggae Boyz footballers, Steel Pulse, UB40, Brian Lara, Sir Garfield Sobers, to name but a few.

We will be at the BBC Good Food Show on Sunday 1st December 2002, demonstrating two dishes , Ackee & Saltfish and Jerk Chicken. There will be tasters for the audience present.

Here are some comments from the press :

“ It’s good to see another choice on Birmingham’s already lengthy list of culinary destinations and Xaymaca is working hard to please, which can only be applauded. For an evening out that offers something different, it’s definitely worth a try.” Birmingham Post, 13/05/1998

“As you enter Xaymaca you could be forgiven for thinking that you had accidentally stumbled onto the set of “Cool Runnings” - the lounge area’s cane furniture and Caribbean music provide the ideal setting to enjoy a pre-dinner drink while you peruse the menu.”

What’s On, April 2001

_______________

Xaymaca’s operators firmly believe that for the continued growth and development of Caribbean food it is imperative for the establishment of more high profile food outlets and it is with this in mind that Xaymaca is forging links with partners to achieve this goal.
