SUPPLYING
TO SAINSBURY'S
For
manufacturers wondering about the process involved in supply to the
major Supermarkets.
What
is Supply something new?
Supply something new is an innovative new scheme from Sainsbury's,
in partnership with Food from Britain, that makes it easier for small
and medium-sized suppliers to showcase their products. We're looking
for new UK producers of innovative foods that are truly unique, have
an interesting heritage and, most importantly, that taste great.
Why has Supply something new been launched?
It's been launched to help Sainsbury's in our search for truly unique
and innovative products, products that are often produced regionally.
We recognise that smaller suppliers can often offer production flexibility
and great creativity.
We're responding to feedback from small suppliers who say that they
find access to the right people at Sainsbury's difficult. This scheme
will help us start conversations.
What sort of producers are you looking for?
We're looking for new UK food producers, both medium and small. We're
working with Food from Britain and the regional food groups to find
outstanding products that are unique, often with an interesting heritage
and, most importantly, that taste great.
How do I apply to be considered as a producer for Supply something
new?
It's easy to apply to the Supply something new scheme. We need you
to complete a questionnaire, which can be downloaded from the website:
www.supplysomethingnew.co.uk
I have a question about completing the application form. Where can
I get help?
If you have any questions or need help completing the form you can
submit your question for advice by completing the short form on the
how to apply page.
If I need help and advice in preparation for the forum or to discuss
my eligibility for application, who should I contact?
Food from Britain, 4th Floor, Manning House, 22 Carlisle Place, London,
SW1P 1JA.
Tel: 020 7233 5111, Fax: 020 7233 9515
What happens if my application is successful?
Successful applicants will attend a forum where they will each have
a 40-minute window to convince our panel that their goods should be
sold on the shelves at Sainsbury's. After presenting their products,
producers will be given an immediate answer.
Is there a minimum size for the producers you're looking to work
with?
No, if your product offer is exciting enough we will work with you
to meet our supply requirements. We're happy to work with producers
of any size, even if you can only supply a few local stores.
Do I need accreditation?
No - it is not essential to have an accreditation to apply to the
Supply something new scheme. If you are successful at the workshop
we will work with you to help you meet the Sainsbury's standards for
suppliers.
How long will it take between attending the workshop and being
listed as a supplier to Sainsbury's?
This will depend largely on your current situation - it could vary
substantially from producer to producer. There are lots of factors
to be considered but we'll work with you and hope to see your product
on the shelves within 2-6 months.
Are there any costs to me to attend the forum?
There is no cost associated with attending the day. In exceptional
circumstances, where the location is prohibitive, Sainsbury's will
subsidise travel costs.
When is the next Supply something forum?
Please see our events calendar for dates.
How am I assessed on the day?
The assessment on the day is very heavily weighted towards creativity
and innovation with additional focus on current technical, manufacturing
and supply capabilities. We're looking for people who want to work
with us and share our goals and values.
When will I know if I've been successful?
You will be told at the forum on the day.
