Cheffette-Holetown, St Floyd recommends  comment one third is minimum required.

The committee were happy about the length of service proposed for committee members as 3 years.     It was suggested that perhaps there should be a code of conduct, or guidelines in case any committee members  brought the association into disrepute.   Floyd suggested that the code of conduct could be in a committee members pack, rather than in the constitution.   There was agreement that examples of unsuitable behaviour, and disciplinary procedures should be documented, and made available for members to view, but would not be for public information.

George said there are a number of people who wish to join the association.   They are looking to see how things progress.   Our business professionalism needs to be raised, for instance: Standards  for Caterers  needs to be raised.   CCC needs to incorporate rules which must be adhered to in order to remain members.

Committee members who miss meetings must send apologies.   It is expected that members will make most meetings.   Consecutive meetings missed, that person’s place on the board will be called into question.   Bilal objected to the number of meetings missed being put into print.

The Chair, Vice Chair and Director could be responsible for dealing with disciplinary matters.

We would at a later stage consider drafting a code of conduct for the wider membership.

Identifying with CCC

Orland suggested that CCC members should wear  a pin or brooch with CCC logo.   Members should also indicate that they are part of CCC on business stationary such as letter heads, business cards or publicity material,

Business Link for London Support

Vernon Barrett of Business Link for London Knowledge Centre was in attendance.   He was given an opportunity to speak to the committee.   He represents the arm of business link which looks at issues affecting minority owned businesses in London.   Ethnic food is one of the areas they are investigating and supporting.   They want to encourage profitability in this sector.   The community as a whole would benefit from increased business in the Caribbean Food and Drink Sector.

Business Link would be prepared to fund a brochure for CCC, to be given out as an introduction to CCC and to Caribbean Food.

Public Sector/Corporate Catering

A client had said to George, your food has been around a long time, but no one seems to be pushing it and promoting it.   He said we needed to target the councils, and corporate businesses.   Richards said many people were making inroads in these areas.   Once a foothold had been found in one local authority,  then other clients followed.   CCC would aim to get additional business for its members.

Vernon suggested that there needed to be an understanding of how public sector contracts are secured.   Business Link has held seminars which inform how procurement works.    It was suggested that Business Link needed to use consultants who understand the wider issues regarding Caribbean Food.   Richard was able to recommend someone.

Sheldon said if Caribbean Food  is to be taken seriously in the mainstream,  we must have certain accreditation in place.

Concentration of Restaurants

When looking for an area which has a concentration of business serving Caribbean Food,   there is none which is the equivalent is to Banglatown in Brick Lane or China Town in Soho.    Even Brixton cannot be classed as having a concentration of Caribbean Restaurants/Take Aways,  since there is one restaurant,  and half a dozen Take Aways.

Community Support

Bilal said that those communities had a support structure, which we have not built up yet.   A successful New York model might not work here because there is a different attitude.   He felt that black people do not support each other in the UK.   People should be ensuring that their guests are entertained in a black owned restaurant.
