Caribbean Cuisine Consortium

Hi All.

How has the new year been for you so far?  Onwards and Upwards we hope.

Caribbean Food Emporium continues to promote and raise the profile of Caribbean Cuisine in the UK, and internationally and we have now entered our sixth year.     The website (www.caribbeanfoodemporium.co.uk) receives almost half a million hits per month.

REVIEW OF LAST YEAR

Yes – in January, we looked back over 2006 and took stock.   See our progress on the website – at this link. www.caribbeanfoodemporium.co.uk/review06.htm

PLANS FOR 2007

We all need a road map.   See on the website a list of projects we are planning.  These are things we know about so far, but new areas arriving weekly, so watch that space. www.caribbeanfoodemporium.co.uk/plans07.htm

Think about what you wish to be involved in and do let us know.   Also, feel free to add to the list.   If there is something you feel we should be doing, you can speak to us  or email.  This will also be a topic of discussion at our next CCC Networking event which will be held on 21st Feb in North London.

If you are planning anything to do with Caribbean Food and Drink, remember that we are happy to support this, with attendance, publicity on the website, and in the magazine.   We will also mention it in our meetings, and interviews with radio, TV or press.

EXHIBITIONS

A good number of Caribbean Food and Drink Manufacturers took part in the ethnic food show - World Food Market at Excel – 29th to 30th November 2006.   The response was excellent.   Suppliers should make it a date for this year’s event.   We also held the 4th annual Caribbean Food and Drink Conference at the same venue, which proved to be a success.

A strong Caribbean Contingent of Tourist Boards took part in the Times Destination and Travel Show at Earls Court, London from 1st Feb – 4th Feb 2007.

Caribbean Food Emporium took part in the Exhibition along with Caribbean Chefs who demonstrated throughout in a Caribbean themed Sensations area.   The very positive response from visitors informed us that the general consumer is very keen to try new products, and that food manufacturers should not limit their marketing to only food shows.

AWARDS

The 2006/07 Caribbean Food and Drink Awards were held in Excel last November.   Winners are listed on the website with links to the businesses’ websites. www.caribbeanfoodemporium.co.uk/awardwinners2006.htm

Speaking of awards.   Introducing the Caribbean and African Food And Beverage (FAB) Awards 2007 to be held 21st May 2007.   We are providing another opportunity for the cream of the crop to win an award.   For those who missed out last time, here is another chance mid-year.   Caribbean Food Emporium will join with the African Food industry in the UK.  This will incorporate an evening Awards Dinner with entertainment at a prestigious location, with celebrities presenting the awards.

More information will  follow over the next few weeks, but there is no public voting for this particular award.  You can send names, websites and contact details of people/products you feel judges should consider.    Judges are being appointed from a list of professionals in the Food and Retail industry.  XRL will be working with Caribbean Food Emporium in partnership for this major project in association with Cockspur Rum.

FRANCHISING OPPORTUNITY

London borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, has secured funding from the London Development Agency to develop an initiative targeting Caribbean food businesses to explore the opportunities for business growth through franchising.

If you own a Caribbean Food  business which is suitable for franchising then you may qualify for free consultancy and preparation for growth.  Information is key.   Ultimately this may lead to funding to set up a franchise in West London.  For more details visit www.caribbeanfoodemporium.co.uk/becfranchise.htm
