Caribbean Food and Drink Conference 2002 - Review

The first Caribbean Food and Drink Conference, organised by Caribbean Food Emporium went very well. The feedback we received was very positive. It seems many were waiting for this to happen. It was a pleasure to hear speakers talk about the progress their business had made in getting Caribbean Food into the market place. We also looked at hindrances to the widespread availability in supermarkets, or retail in general.

A decision was made in the discussion towards the end of the conference that an association/network of Caribbean Food and Drink Businesses should be formed. Twelve people volunteered to meet in January to have initial discussions about this. So it looks like it will all be happening in 2003.

Lots of new ideas came to us, and we were inspired and encouraged by the speakers, and by the discussions which ensued throughout the day. There were freebies and tasters provided by Walkers Wood and Cottons Rum Cakes.

A number of people are asking about the next event. Someone even asked if we are doing something for Christmas. Nearly all said they would come back to the conference next year, and recommend it to associates, so we expect an even bigger conference next year.

During the 2003 Conference, there will be an awards ceremony for the best Caribbean Restaurants, Best Take Away, Best Bakery. The general public are invited to nominate their favourites and the final shortlist will be announced in October. Email Caribbean Food Emporium with your nominations and reasons why you are nominating those businesses.
