The project is to produce a coffee table book which gives
information, recipes, traditions etc. about the black cake.
About the Caribbean Black Cake Project forthcoming book
The Caribbean Cake project based at Youth Aid Lewisham has
combined forces with Well Placed Consultancy to provide a
series of workshops celebrating achievements of black chef’s
plus demonstrating
and sharing knowledge and wisdom of the
Caribbean Black cake .
Crucially, the Caribbean Cake project is an initiative
designed to encourage;-

To celebrate its history and importance within our community
Participation
of young people in developing this community heritage.
Update
and reprint Caribbean Black Cake book.
Raise
profile of Caribbean Cake making as a business venture.
Youth Aid first produced the Caribbean Cake project
in 1996, it now takes place annually in December at
Goldsmith ‘s College. The cake exhibition, catering demonstrations
and traditional ball is unique as it first of its kind in
the UK; and symbolizes love, care and mutual trust.
Youth Aid Lewisham, a voluntary organization (is over30 years
old) which offers advice and information to young people aged
11-25 years.
The events in the Caribbean Cake Project workshops will include:
The opportunity to listen and participate in discussions,
with a Chef, or a Restaurant owner from the Caribbean community
plus find out some more about food from the Caribbean. This
is also your opportunity to cook, and present nutritious Caribbean
snack and meal for yourself.

Cake Makers
We specifically want to hear from cake makers no matter how
you may view yourself.
For example, is there someone you always go to as you
have every confidence that they will do you proud and make
a good cake. Perhaps they have passed this skill down are
you aware of stories that you were told about a relative
or family friend in this respecti.This will cover the
section we wish to include:-

How the tradition of the black cake is kept alive
We would love to hear from cake makers out there
this is your opportunity to share your skills and knowledge
and your appreciation for this fine art and important culinary
skill..
This will go
in section covering

Profiling cake makers from different boroughs in London and
the regions.
Children & young people - and the Black Cake
Also required are poetry
from children about their cake experiences.
Also - a piece of prose from youngsters about cake,
or a short story.
