Aloe, Aloe Vera

Aloe is a tender perennial which makes a terrific houseplant, thriving in dim indoor light and with infrequent watering.

There are over 240 different species of Aloe, growing mainly in the dry regions of Africa, Asia, Europe and America.

Although Aloe vera is a member of the Lily family, it is very cactus-like in appearance.

Of the 240+ species of Aloe, four are recognized as having nutritional value with Aloe barbadensis miller leading the group. Aloe barbadensis miller is the type of Aloe used in most commercial products with aloe content available today.

The aloe leaf contains over 75 nutrients and 200 active compounds, including 20 minerals, 18 amino acids, and 12 vitamins. A high quality Aloe Drink, which uses only the nutritious inner gel - not the outer rind the rind of the leaf, is one of the most nutritious drinks available.

Aloe is sometimes used to treat burns and wounds. It is also used to speed the healing of sunburns. It is the leaves that are used. It has thick succulent leaves. A stimulant laxative.

ALOE is a  popular plant  which has anesthetic, antibacterial and tissue-restorative properties. Aloe gel speeds the healing of burns (from fire, sun or radiation) and insect bites, and relieves itching and dandruff. some clinical evidence demonstrates aloe may be useful in treating skin cancer.

Aloe gel comes from a freshly cut leaf. just slice the leaf through the middle and spread the gel right onto the affected area. For more serious burns or sores, hold the cut leaf in place by wrapping the area with gauze. Since aloe cannot withstand temperatures below 41F, gardeners in cooler regions or high on the mountains must grow it in containers to be brought indoors during cold weather. It can be propagated  by planting the suckers, which grow around the base of the plant. You can remove the suckers when they are 1 to 2 inches long (or 6 to 8 inches for outdoor plants).

Aloe Vera is an incredible plant - with incredible healing properties - but it is not a miracle cure!
